.) One way the film was like the book was when they talk about losing doc restrepo is killed barely a month after being there. In the book Jenkins dies in the beggining, This makes it real because lots of people die in war which pulls out a feeling of fear inside you.
.) Also in the movie the soldiers seem to really like to get into fire fights. In the book Peewee always says how he is going to kill every Cong he sees.
.) In the book Perry was very young and in the movie alot of soldiers were still very young too.
.) In the book they go on opperation rock avalanche and alot of soldiers die and they fear they wont make it through. In the book when Perrys squad is ordered to take the hill the cong are too powerful and the squad gets split up and there are tons of casualties.
.) In the movie Seth is killed on the mountain and he is a very good soldier. In the book Carrol dies and he is considered a very good soldier.
.) In the movie the soldiers have a dance party to stay sane. In the book the soldiers played volleyball.
.) Perry writes a letter haome to his brother in the book. In the movie a guy writes a letter home and a picture of the valley.
.) In the book the best moment for Perry and Peewee is leaving. In the movie the best part of all their time is also leaving.
.) In the movie they sit around and talk about where one guy should go to college. In the book they also talk about where one guy should go.
.) In the book most of it was about free time but parts of it were about fighting. In the movie most of the time they were hanging out at the base but they had to go out to find fights
Fallen angels and Restrepo taught me alot about war. The main thing it taught me was that war is a pretty crappy place. One way it taught me this was in war you must always be alert. In Fallen Angels A soldier named Jenkins failedto be alert during a patrol and as a result stepped on a mine and was killed. Another way it taught me this was when the squad in Restrepo was on Operation Rock Avalanche and one of the best soldiers was killed. knowing that there was a constant possibility of death and then seeing someone who is better than you get killed is not a very comfortable feeling. One final way that reading Fallen Angels and watching Restrepo showed me that war is a crappy place was when in both books all of the soldiers agreed that the best part of war was leaving it. I beleive after reading Fallen Angels and watching Restrepo that war is a very crappy place.
